On December 5, 2023, the 2023 China International Maritime Exhibition opened with the theme “Innovation, Intelligence, Low-Carbon.” Cummins showcased two new low-emission marine engines soon to be launched—QSZ13 and locally produced QSK50—capturing the full attention of attendees.

In marine applications, we are constantly exploring and improving existing engine technologies, adopting low-carbon emission technologies, intelligent control systems, and advanced materials to enhance fuel efficiency and operational performance, reduce emissions of CO₂, NOx, and particulate matter, and gradually achieve zero emissions.”
The QSZ13 is a 13-liter, high-power inline 6-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 800 horsepower. Developed jointly by Chongqing Cummins and Dongfeng Cummins marine engine teams using advanced local R&D and manufacturing resources, it took two years to create this premium engine. The QSZ13 is suitable for yachts, government service vessels, and recreational fishing boats, meeting China Stage II and IMO Tier II emission standards, while also capable of complying with strict standards such as U.S. EPA Tier III, EU3A, and RCD2.
The QSZ13 incorporates multiple leading Cummins diesel technologies. Its ultra-high-pressure fuel injection system (XPI), Quantum electronic control system, and high-efficiency HOLSET turbocharger ensure excellent power performance and fuel economy. Optimized low-temperature intercooling technology enables compliance with a wide range of marine emission regulations. The engine’s structural design balances lightweight construction with reliability under high-power conditions.
This engine’s truck variant has competed in the Dakar Rally, winning both first and second places, demonstrating mature and reliable performance. The QSK50 is a 16-cylinder, four-stroke, high-speed, low-emission, high-power diesel engine with a bore and stroke of 159mm and a power range from 1,700 to 2,200 horsepower. It can be used for marine power generation or propulsion and has received certification from major global classification societies including ABS, BV, DNV, CCS, and LR.
The QSK50 features a V-type configuration, integrated engine heat exchanger, and seawater pump, providing a compact structure suitable for engine room layout. It is equipped with an efficient turbocharged low-temperature intercooling intake system and modular high-pressure common rail fully electronic fuel injection technology. Compared with traditional mechanical engines, the QSK50 offers lower combustion noise, reduced vibration, improved fuel efficiency, and stronger adaptability at low loads.
The QSK50 has been widely applied in government service vessels, offshore platforms, ferries, wind power vessels, and engineering ships, earning high praise from users. To better serve the Chinese marine engine market, Cummins introduced the QSK50 into local production in 2023, with formal production starting at Chongqing Cummins’ new high-power factory. The locally produced QSK50 fully aligns with Cummins’ global manufacturing and quality standards, while its power output has been further enhanced to meet China’s market demand, reduce delivery time, and satisfy diverse domestic customization requirements.
